How did Exceptional Kid Academy Come to Be?

Exceptional Kid Academy was founded by Momi Robins-Makaila, an educator, mother, and author whose personal and family life struggles awakened a deep sensitivity to the pain of others — especially those who want more for their lives but don’t yet believe they can have it.

Through her own journey of heartbreak, perseverance, and faith — chronicled in her books Candy Canes and Coke and Rescued By a God I Didn’t Know — Momi discovered a calling: to help others rise above fear, rediscover their purpose, and learn the skills to truly thrive.

She saw what so many experience: life as a series of challenges that leave people stuck in survival mode — living in a constant “fight, flight, or freeze” response known as Amygdala Hijack. In this state, joy feels out of reach, and potential lies dormant.

Momi’s life and work are proof that it doesn’t have to stay that way.
With the right tools — executive functioning skills, emotional awareness, resilience, self-belief, and meaningful human connection — anyone can break free from fear and live with joy, confidence, and purpose.
