Strong Humans Collection - The Way I See

The Way I See

What if changing the way you look at something could change what you discover?

The Way I See is a collection of short, memorable microstories told through rhyme, each designed to help young children explore perspective, curiosity, empathy, resilience, and flexible thinking.

Through beach adventures, ocean discoveries, mistakes, storms, detours, friendships, and surprises, the Vanguard Heroes learn an important truth: what we see first is not always the whole story.

What Children will explore

The way we see a situation is not always the only way to see it. The Way I See helps children discover that two people can experience the same moment and understand it differently, and that sometimes we need to look again before deciding what something means.

Through the book, children explore perspective-taking, inference, curiosity, flexible thinking, empathy, and the importance of looking for evidence before jumping to conclusions. They learn to consider other possibilities, notice what they may have missed, and recognize that changing their minds when they learn something new is a strength.

Most importantly, children begin to understand that what we see shapes what we think, but looking again can change what we understand.

Look closely.
Ask questions.
Consider another possibility.
Be willing to change your mind.

Sometimes a different perspective changes everything.

look again. think deeper

The illustrations are designed to do more than show what is happening.

Emotional metaphor and personification help make invisible ideas visible.

A lawn can become a path of follow-through. A tempting present can call from a closet. Peer pressure can gather like a storm.

Children are encouraged to notice details, explain what they see, consider different perspectives, and connect the images to their own lives.

Read it. Talk about it. use it.

Read the poem first without explaining the meaning. Then look closely at the illustration.

Ask:

“What do you notice?”
“What do you see that makes you think that?”
“What choice is the character facing?”
“What might happen if they choose differently?”
“What would you do?”
“Did you notice something different when you looked again?”

Two or three thoughtful questions are often more powerful than trying to explain the lesson for the child.
